Community Outreach

At the Gardner Animal Care Center, we understand the importance of the communities around us. Our team members are involved with our local police department, local shelters, humane societies, and pet rescue groups. We want to be sure that all the pets in our local area receive care.

We work with the NEADS (Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans) located in Princeton, MA. This is a non-profit organization, organized under section 503c (3) of the IRS Code. Founded in 1976, NEADS trains and provides independence to people who are deaf or physically disabled through the use of canine assistance. Dr. Michael McTigue offers routine care for the dogs and puppies under their care.

We work closely with the Ahimsa Haven Animal Rescue Group by offering assistance to care for their shelter pets. The Orange Animal Control, our veterinarians, and team members have teamed up to offer routine spay and neuter surgeries under the Orange Grant Program.

Our team is dedicated to offering members in our community job shadowing opportunities. We also offer externship opportunities for students in our local high schools. All externs are screened through an application and interview process. The Gardner Animal Care Center is happy to open their door for group tours when scheduled in advance. Please contact our office for more details.

Every year, Dr. Hurley and Dr. Cohen hold a series of spring rabies clinics during March and April. These clinics give pet owners an opportunity to update their pet’s rabies vaccination. They are held in Westminster, Gardner, Royalston, Ashburnham, Barre, and Warwick. In October, Dr. Hurley does a rabies clinic in Orange. Please be sure to watch our events calendar for dates and times.

The Gardner News and Dr. Hurley have teamed up to offer a weekly veterinary column. This column is written to inform and educate our regions pet owners on a variety of topics. This column can also be read on the Gardner Animal Care Center blog page.

As members of our community, our team is committed to all clients and their pets extending beyond the walls of our hospital.
